미국에서 20세기에 활동한 가장 잘 알려진 가수들 가운데 하나였다.
그는 로큰롤의 제왕(The King Of Rock and Roll)이라는 별명을 갖고 있다.
그는 1956년 나이 22세 영화 러브 미 텐더로 데뷔하였다.
그는 세계에서 비틀즈와 함께 가장 많은 앨범을 판 아티스트로 기록되어 있으며,
현재 약 10억장 이상 넘는 판매고를 기록한 것으로 추정된다.
1977년 8월 16일 엘비스 프레슬리는 미국 테네시 주의 멤피스에서
자택의 욕조에서 쓰러진 채로 발견돼 병원으로 옮겨졌으나
향년 43세의 나이에 심장마비로 사망했다.
